Pelourinho
The name of the place (a square) in Salvador (Bahia, north-east Brasil) where the slaves were often punished in colonial times. Pelourinho means 'pillory' so the place took its name from what it was used for. Pelourinho was also the location of Mestre Pastinha's first school of Capoeira Angola
